Freaky Tah

Back in the mid-90s during Hip Hop's most grimey era, a crew based out Jamaica Queens, NYC (though, mad people up in Rochester, NY aka Roc-City aka Da Roc aka New Roc City, would disagree about the group's origins) brought a brilliantly shining moment of clarity, fun, and groove back to the "keeping it real" "ox-toungin" "ac-whippin" thugged out drug dealing landscape of our culture's music. This group...The Lost Boyz.

Their single "Jeeps, Lex Coups, Bimas and Benz," had us all grooving and having a great time at the clubs. Their smash hit "Renee" had us all reminiscing about that one lost love... At the core of the good music and times was Raymond "Freaky Tah" Rogers. Always punctuating Mr Cheeks' rhymes with his lovable personality and gravel-voiced antics.

The group regularly held community events, BBQs, and video game playing parties for children from the Jamaica area. Even looking towards organizing a free summer camp in Upstate NY for local kids, as well.

Sadly enough, Tah was murdered, on his way out of a party at a Jamaica Queens Hotel on March 28, 1999 at the age of 27.
