June Pointer
Oakland, CA has a very rich
musical history. One person contributing to that rich history is June
Pointer Whitmore, born November 30, 1954 in East Oakland, CA. She rose
to musical fame would while singing with her sisters Anita, Bonnie and
Ruth in the church choir of the congregation their parents ministered.
The four began their professional career as members of "The Pointer
Sisters," in 1973. Mrs. Pointer Whitmore would record two solo albums:
Baby Sister in 1983, and June Pointer (exact year unknown). Later June
would leave her sisters' group. A drug user for the majority of her
singing career, she was charged with felony posession of cocaine and
misdeamor posession of a smoking device in 2004, and ordered into rehab.
Her marriage to William Whitmore only lasted from 1978 to 1991. They had no children.
