Sabotage
Born Mauro
Mateus dos Santos in the favelas of Sao Paolo, Brazil, Sabotage's fame
was solidified by his performance in Brazilian film "O Invasor."
Not only did the critically acclaimed movie feature him in both a
starring acting role and recording artist on it's soundtrack, but some
have held the film holds a certain irony considering the Rapper's fate.
Featured on many albums from 1994's "Transfusion" compilation to
Instituto's "National Collective" in 2004, Sabotage released his debut
solo album in 1999 titled "Concrete". Among his more reknownwed guest
appearances was his cover of Public Enemy's "Black Steel in the Hour of
Chaos", on Sepultura's "Revolusongs" EP.
At the time of his death, he was preparing material for a 3rd solo
album and a trip to the World Social Forum, in Porto Alegre, in protest
of global corporatization.
Mr Santos, aka Sabotage, was fatally shot numerous times about the face
and chest in the early hours of January 24 2003 as he returned from
dropping his wife at work. He is survived by said wife and three
children.
